Report submitted by Andrew Kanarek Skipper/Team Manager

It was an amazing experience!
When IEMA decided to help a youth crew compete at the World Championships we had an application submitted in 20 minutes that won out over several European submissions. On offer was Athena ( ex Ilderim) a 3rd Rule, Neptune Class 8mR owned by John Boyle, Earl of Cork and Earl of Orrery, and a member of the British House of Lords. Athena had been hidden away in storage since 2019 Cowes worlds. It was a surreal moment running around to get the boat race ready, servicing every single winch, inspecting and repairing, going up and down the mast.

After using a period correct wooden boat with wooden horn cleats, no self tailors, clutches or jam cleats, polyester lines, wooden spars, cloth sails, seized winches filled with brass shavings, no traveler, no boomvang - it really made us appreciate the luxury of modern rigging!

About the Event:
In big winds, nearly 20 -30 knots every day we won the Corinthian Trophy - Athena | K36 | representing the Etobicoke Yacht Club Etobicoke Yacht Club. It was very tight racing with starts where the boats were inches apart.
