3rd Annual CICSA 8mR Training Weekend


Using Bangalore and Norseman. 29 registered students representing the sailing teams of 8 universities – U of Ottawa, McGill, U of T, U of Victoria, Dalhousie, Royal Military College, Queen’s and the University of Waterloo enjoyed fine weather and good winds for gaining experience tacking and jibbing on the first day in Toronto Harbour. Before heading out to practice starts and upwind downwind on Lake Ontario on Sunday. Burgers and beers courtesy of Steamwhistle Brewing were provided to a crowd that had worked up a thirst. Thanks to Thomas Fogh RCYC Sailing Director for his work on and off the water making the event a great success.
 

 

Lovely Lady R&R Tour


She's at Cayuga Wooden Boatworks in on Cayuga Lake...one of the Fingerlakes. They have a Facebook page...restored General George S. Patton's schooner "When and If". Golden Feather is going under the knife for dry rot removal\replacement as well as her keelson. All great news and a quality yard performing the work!

 

CICSA Event May 2024

NAEMA held the second annual keel boat training event with the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association (CICSA) May 11 and 12, 2024.
22 students from 10 post secondary sailing clubs gained experience crewing 4 8mR yachts from EYC and RCYC. Thomas Fogh Director of Sailing at RCYC ran the event both on the water and on land. NAEMA and Steamwhistle Brewery supplied the post sailing BBQ party.

8 Bells - Commodore Cedric Gyles Sr.

We are very sorry to report that Commodore Cedric Gyles Sr. recently passed away peacefully at home, he was 96 years old. Ced was a founder of the Lake Ontario 8 Metre Association ( now NAEMA). In 2010 he was made a Honourary Lifetime Member of the International Eight Metre Association (IEMA).

The Fleet owes a great deal to his perseverance and commitment to 8mR sailing.
